βAn Iliad: Activating Veteran Histories brings veterans into dialogue about wartime experience through Homer’s epic. After witnessing a live performance of the play, veterans write their own monologues in the form of letters home from ancient soldiers. Using the safety of metaphor to make the real both more profound and more bearable. These monologues were compiled into a living record of modern wartime experience, creating a new form of epic poetry.β
